Tech4Eva Press Release: Five Years Supporting Femtech
Today's closing event marks the end of the fifth edition of Tech4Eva, Switzerland's first Femtech accelerator. Over the past five years, 110 start-ups (29 Swiss) from 71 countries have received support, raising a total of CHF 294+ million to date for their businesses.
Launched in 2021 by EPFL Innovation Park and Groupe Mutuel, the Femtech Accelerator has reached its first anniversary. In its first five years, it has supported 110 start-ups from 71 countries, showcasing innovative solutions for women's health. To date, the participating start-ups have raised 294+ million Swiss francs to advance their respective businesses.
The central theme of today's event at Careum Zurich, in collaboration with Artemis, is therefore: "From an idea to a start-up - how do you make a start-up a success?" Over 400 participants from around the world – including investors, start-ups, researchers, and industry experts – gather together both in person and online to discuss the future of women's health.
Prof.Dr. Inge K. Herrmann, Head of The Ingenuity Lab Zurich, Professor in Zurich and Associate Faculty ETH AI Center, is known for her innovative research in the field of women's health. In her keynote talk, she speaks about her experience with two start-ups, MenstruAI and EndoStop: "Women's health issues, such as menstrual blood or endometriosis, were overlooked for decades because menstruation was culturally taboo and women-specific research was generally underfunded. Therefore, bold projects are needed to break down existing patterns so that women's health finally receives the recognition it deserves."
Valentina Sartori, Partner, McKinsey & Company, highlights the potential of closing the women’s health gap, both in health and the economy: "If we could close the health gap for women, it would translate to seven additional healthy days per year per woman by 2040. That's equivalent to at least one trillion US dollars additional in global GDP by 2040."
Furthermore, the start-ups in the fifth cohort report on their progress over the past six months. The sixteen companies, four of which are based in Switzerland, demonstrate how technology can improve the lives of millions of women with solutions ranging from AI-supported diagnostics to sustainable approaches for menopause and fertility.
